About me
My name is Sydney Young, and I am an artist from Henderson, Nevada a suburb of Las Vegas. As an artist surrounded by the Mojave Desert, I am inspired by more abstract, color driven pallet in the hopes to brighten up a person’s day both within the home or within a commercial setting. While creating in a digital space I integrate traditional mediums. The artwork I produce combines the two in a seamless fashion. My artwork is created in a variety of mediums such as pencil, charcoal, ink, colored pencil, digital painting, and digital inking. The subject or theme of each piece helps me to determine what medium is best suited to reflect the vision I wish to create.
Greyscale Japanese artists of the last two decades have influenced the foundation of my artwork. The line work of these Japanese artists is pure and can relay emotion without color. I am impressed at how clean and stylized their work can be even without color. I learned how these greyscale Japanese artists did their line work and I followed suit. Line work for me is essential prior to adding in color. If the line work is not excellent, then the final piece will fall short. Someone might not think line work plays a big part in how artwork is created but just stripping it down to its basics with just the line and a light shade of colors creates something entirely new, meaningful to the mind’s eye. I want to bring this Fundamentally based style into prominence in the current art world. The artist JC Leyendecker and his impressive paintings and advertisements are very much an influence on my current artwork. Looking at his artwork he ties in both a balance of excellent line work and color that has been missing balance within art recently. My goal is to perfect the line work allowing the addition of color to emphasize the emotion and sense of space.
